Evaluating Your Eligibility for Medicare
Find out whether you qualify for Medicare and which plan will suit you best!
Are you Eligible for Medicare?
If you’re wondering about your eligibility for Medicare, you’ve come to the right place! If you are 65 or over and a citizen or permanent resident of the United States, you will qualify for Medicare.
You also need to fulfill the employment criteria, which states that you must have worked for a minimum of 10 years in Medicare-covered employment. The same applies if your spouse fulfills the above mentioned criteria.
If you are not 65, you might also qualify for coverage if you have a disability or are suffering from permanent kidney failure, which requires dialysis or a transplant (End-Stage Renal Disease).
You can also get Medicare Part A once you turn 65, and that too without paying premiums if you fulfill the following criteria:
- You are a recipient of Social Security or Railroad Retirement benefits.
- You qualify to receive Social Security or Railroad Benefits but haven’t claimed them.
- You or your spouse are existing Medicare-covered government employees.
Eligibility for those under 65
If you are under 65, you can still receive Medicare Part A if you qualify for the following:
- You have received Social Security or Railroad Retirement before you’ve turned 65 for at least 24 months.
- You’re suffering from End-Stage Renal disease and undergoing dialysis or an existing transplant patient.
While you wouldn’t have to pay for Part A benefits if you fulfill the above criteria, you still have to pay for Medicare Part B if you choose to avail it.
The money will be deducted from your Social Security, civil retirement checks, or Railroad Retirement.
If you’re not the recipient of any of the above, Medicare will send you a monthly or a three-monthly bill for Medicare Part B.
